Week of 9-30-19

       This will be a busy week as we prepare for Fall Break.  I will be doing reading assessment of sight words, read for fluency and understand, and decoding words.  It will be helpful if your child continue to study their sight words.
       This week we will be working on the following skills:
  • Math addition strategies
  • Introduction to addition
  • Science:  Habitat
  • Research
  • Identify, decode, write, and read words with nd, sk, nk, nt, mp, 
  • Identify nouns and use nouns in a sentence
  • Review contraction
  • Review ABC order
  • Continue to learn about fire safety
  • Continue to work on writing using good letter formation and safety.
  • Read and rewrite a story in sequence.
  • Read and discuss the weekly Bible story "Isaac is Born"

       The children brought home a package with the words that they will be working on for the spelling bee.  The spelling bee will be in January.  However, we will begin working on them now.  It would be great if your child would work on them at home also.  We will work on them at school each day.  We will work on how to spell the world as well as learn the definition of the word.  If you have any question feel free to contact us.

Week of September 23, 2019

      This week the children will be busy preparing for their field- trip to the fire station.  The children will go to the fire-station on Forest-View and Murfreesboro Road.  Parents are invited to attend.  If you are going on the field trip please let your child's teacher know.  We will be going on Friday, September 27th.We will be leaving school around 8:30. The children will have lunch at school.  There is no cost for this field trip.

This week the children will be reading and discussing the Legend of Johnny Appleseed.  We will have an apple tasting party on Wednesday.  A note will be sent home letting you know what your child should bring on Wednesday.

This week the children will work on the following skills:

  • Identify, decode, and read words with short/u/
  • Review all of the short vowel sounds
  • Identify nouns as a person, place, or thing.
  • Continue to work on Phonological Awareness (Identifying rhymes)
  • Continue to work on writing using good letter formation and spacing.
  • Read and write about the legend of Johnny Appleseed,
  • Read for fluency and understanding
  • Read, discuss, and write about a story in sequence.
  • Read and learn about fire safety.
  • Unit math test
  • Creating animal habitats

Week of September 16, 2019

       It was so good to see all the grandparents on Friday.  The children were excited and will remember Grandparent's Day for a lifetime.  
      This week the children will begin the week with learning about "God's Promise".  They will enjoy doing several fun activities about "God's Promise".

      This  week the children will be getting reading for our homecoming.  Ezell-Harding's homecoming will be this Friday.  
This week the children can wear the following since this will be Spirit Week.
  • Monday              Pajama Day
  • Tuesday              Hat Day
  • Wednesday         Favorite Sport Team
  • Thursday             Wacky Tacky Day
  • Friday                  Spirit Day ( All children should wear an Ezell Harding T-shirt
IF YOUR CHILD DOES NOT WEAR THE ABOVE THEY MUST WEAR THEIR UNIFORM.

Below are the skills the children will be working on this week:
  • Comparing numbers 1-99
  • Read and discuss the Bible story "God's Promise"
  • Weekly Memory verse: Genesis 9:16 (NIV) "Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth." 
  • Plants VS, Animals (How are they alike? How are they different?)
  • Identify, decoding, and reading words in content with short /e/
  • Identify details, setting, and characters within the story.
  • Review ABC order
  • Identify and use the inflectional ending -ed
  • Continue to work on reading for fluency and comprehension
  • Continue to work on sight words
  • Retell and rewrite the weekly Bible story in sequence
  • Continue to work on writing using good letter formation and spacing
  • Continue to work on map skills

Week of September 9, 2019

       This week the children will be getting reading for Grandparents' Day.  Grandparents' Day will be this Friday, September 13th.  It will begin at 8:30.  Your child's grandparent or special friend will be able to check your child out of class and go to the reception and program in the high school.  We will take the remaining children to the reception and program.  Your child will be dismissed at 11:00 on Grandparents' Day,  so they can spend some more time with their grandparent/s.  Please make sure you have turn in your note about if your child will be leaving with their grandparent/s on Monday.  If your child will be staying for extended day they will need to make sure that they bring a lunch.

This week the children will work on the following skills:

  • Read and learn about the Bible story Noah.
  • Identify, decode, and read words with /s/ and /b/ blends.
  • Review ABC order
  • Write a short narrative about their grandparents.
  • Review decoding words with  short /a/, /i/ and /short /o/
  • Read and learn about weekly high frequency words:  jump, move, run, two,
  • Phonemic Awareness Drills with short vowel sounds.
  • Read and discuss why they have grandparents and their role.
  • Continue to work on map skills ( Identify and use a map key.
  • Continue to work on handwriting using good letter formation and spacing.
