Week of January 29, 2018

     This is the week the children have been waiting for since school began in August.  This week we will celebrate 100 Days of School.  The children will celebrate 100 Days of School on Wednesday, January 31st.  Each child should bring a zip lock bag with 100 items in it.  Your child will use these items for some of the activities we will be doing on Wednesday.
       The children will work on the following skills this week.

  • Identifying, decoding, and reading words with long /o/, /ow/, and /oe/
  • Identifying main idea, details within the story, characters, plot, and setting within a story.
  • Continue to work with prefix
  • Review open syllables
  • Continue to work on reading multi-syllable words
  • Write several narratives about 100 Days of School
  • Addition of two digit numbers
  • Continue to work on place value and number sense.
  • The children will be introduced to the rain cycle
  • The children will work with making snow flakes within the STEM lab
  • Read and discuss weekly Bible story "Joseph Forgives His Brothers"
  • Students learn about Groundhog Day

low, boat, row, oat, toe, one, hundred, count, first, more, school
Bonus Words:  addition, subtraction

  • 100 Days of School will be Wednesday, January 31st.  Your child will need to bring something for the 100 Day of School Snack.  A note was sent home on Thursday stating what your child should bring.
  • Children should continue to study their math facts and sight words.
  • AR Requirement:  Your child should read at least 1 chapter book a week or three books on your child level.

Week of January 22, 2018
        I hope all of you enjoyed the snow days.  The children appeared to have been excited to be back in school. This will be a extremely busy week as we prepare for the first/second grade play.  The play will be this Thursday at 6:30.  If you have any questions about what your child should wear please contact me.  If any parent can help with the scenery please meet me after school on Tuesday.

Below are the skills hopefully that will be taught this week:
  • Teacher will introduce prefixes:  re, un, and pre
  • Students will identify, decode, and read long e words spelled /ee/ and /ea/ in content
  • Phonemic Awareness Phoneme drills (Long Vowels)
  • The children will read, retell, and rewrite the weekly Bible story.  "The People of Israel are Slaves in Egypt"
  • We will continue to review addition and subtraction number facts.
  • Children will add two digit numbers.
  • The children will continue to work on addition/subtraction word problem
  • The children will learn about the water cycle
  • The teacher will introduce how to identify the plot within the story.

      me, feed, seat, we, keep, beak, sheep. dream, jeep, meet
      Bonus Words:  Precipitation - weather

      WEEKLY REMINDERS: 
  • AR Update:  Children that are reading chapter books are only required to read one book a week.  However, your child may read more books if they choose.
  • If your child is not reading a chapter books they are required to continue to read three books.
  • If you have not sent in the $5.00 for the field trip to see the play about Charlie Brown please do so as soon as possible.  
  • First Grade/Second Grade play Thursday at 6:30
  • The !00 Day of School Celebration has been tentative changed to January 31st due to the snow days

Week of January 15, 2018

         This week the children will continue to practice for the first/second grade play.  This play will be held on January 25th at 6:30.  A note was sent home listing what your child will need to wear for the play.  If you are interested in helping with the scenery please let me know.

  • Coming Home:  The children may dress up on each day of the week as listed below.  If your child does not choose to dress up for any day they must wear their school uniform.

          Monday:   MLK Day
          Tuesday:  Character Day (Dress as your favorite book character)

Week of January 1-8-18

        This week will be a very busy week.  I will introduce new skills in all subjects.  The children will continue to practice for the first/second grade play.  The play will be on January 25th,  More information will be sent home letter.  This information will give you the time and what your child will need to wear.  If your child has a speaking part please review this with your child daily until the play. Parents are needed to assist in making the scenery for the play . If you  are able to help with making the scenery for the play please contact me as soon           as possible.
        Below are the skills that your child will be working on this week:

  • Phonological Awareness Identifying and generating rhyme in poems
  • Identifying and reading compound words
  • Identifying plot, main idea, and cause and effects within a story
  • Write a narrative about living in a snow-globe
  • Counting and writing by 5's 10's to 100
  • Adding groups of 10's
  • Introduce addition of two digit numbers
  • Begin a unit of study about weather
  • Identify, decode, and read words with /ai/ and /ay/
  • Rewrite and retell stories in sequence
  • Decoding words with multi- syllables.
  • Weekly Bible Story will be "Joseph Helps Pharaoh" Genesis 39:1-41-49
  • Learn about the life of Dr. Marin Luther King Jr.

  • Student should dress warmly each day.  If your child will be wearing a sweater or jacket during the day it should be a EHCS sweater or jacket.
  • Children will begin practicing for the first grade play.  The play will be about winter.
  • Continue to study sight words and addition and subtraction facts.
  • Children will begin bringing home AR books on Tuesday.
