Week of September 26-30

What a busy week we have just finished!  We had a great time at our Vocabulary Parade today. We learned lots of new words and enjoyed seeing the creative costumes everyone was wearing. It was nice to meet with so many of you this week and talk about your students's progress on Conference day. Next week we are going on our first field trip to Walden Farm.

We will be working on the following:

  • decoding and identifying words  with end blends
  •  possessive words
  • sequencing
  • reading comprehension
  • main ideas and details
  • writing complete sentences
  • using correct capitalization and punctuation
  • fall words
  • identifying nouns and verbs
  • mixed addition and subtraction
  • solving word problems

  • writing about information on a graph
  • handwriting-neatness and letter formation
  • pumpkins\how plants grow
  • the story of Moses sending his servant to find a wife for Issac

Field trip on Thursday! Wear red EH uniform shirt, jeans, and tennis shoes. Bring a SACK lunch. We will be leaving around 8:15 after chapel. We will eat lunch at the farm and be back around 12:30 pm.

Week of  September 19, 2016


       This week the children will be very busy as they learn about the legend of Johnny Appleseed.  The children will be tasting things made of apples on Friday,  Therefore, we are asking each child to bring something special made of apples on Friday.  Below are some examples:
apple butter, apple chips, apple bread, apple cookies, apple sauce, and apple candy.  These are just examples.  Your child may bring anything made of apples.

The following skills will be taught this week:
  • The children will read identify, decode, and read words with short /u/.
  • The children will be introduce to contractions
  • Students will continue to work on sight words and learning new vocabulary.
  • Students will continue to work on identifying the main idea and details within a story.
  • The children will continue to work with writing simple sentence.
  • The children will work mixed addition and subtraction problems using different strategies.
  • The children will interpret data from a apple graph.
  • The children will continue to work on writing narratives using a class bubble map.
HOMEWORK:
Monday:  Write each spelling word in a complete sentence/Read AR book/ study sight words
Tuesday:  Read words and sentences with short /u/ to an adult at home/study sight words/read AR     book
Wednesday:  Read for fun/ Read AR Book/ Study sight words
Thursday: Mixed addition/subtraction worksheet

Week of September 12-16
This week:
  • Students will be reading realistic fiction stories.
  • We will discuss jobs in our communities.
  • We will identify and discuss characters, settings, and events.
  • Students will learn, decode, and identify words with short e.
  • We will learn to use words with the inflectional ending -ed and discuss past tense.
  • We will begin identifying and writing contractions.
  • Students will continue to write complete sentences.
  • We will study the story of Abram leaving his home.
  • Students will be retelling the Bible story,
  • We will continue to solve subtraction problems and word problems.
  • We will begin a study of Magnets and do some simple experiments.

Please continue to check and sign your child's planner everyday.
Encourage your child to read his/her AR book to you several times before taking an AR test.
Keep practicing sight words as often as you can. Even if your child has mastered these it is a good idea to review.

Open House is this Tuesday, September 13 from 5-7 pm. Please plan to visit the classroom to see what your child has been doing. There will be sign up sheets for Parent-Teacher Conferences at Open House. Conferences will be on September 22nd.

The 3rd annual Vocabulary Parade will be on September 23rd. Please check your emails for information on this from the office. It is a very exciting day!

Our first field trip will be on September 29th. We will be traveling to Walden Farms. Be looking for more information to come about this trip.

Week of September 5, 2016

        I hope everyone had a great break.  This will be a busy week since it's a four day week.  Below are some of the skills and topics we will be working on this week:


  • Identifying and reading words with the /s/ and /r/ blend
  • Identifying details within the story
  • Reading for good comprehension and fluency
  • We will continue to work on learning new vocabulary in all subjects
  • Subtract with difference less than 10
  • Work and explain addition and subtraction word problems
  • Identifying the characteristic of living and non-living things
  • The children will be reading and the Bible story "God's Promise"
  • The children will continue to work on writing using good letter formation and spacing.
  • Review color words and colors of a rainbow
