Week of February 26, 2018

       This week the children will be working on their African American presentation.  The presentation will be Friday, March 2nd in the Eagle's Nest at 8:30.  The children should come to school dressed in what they will be wearing in the program.  Allow your child to bring a change of clothes to put on after the program.
Parents and friends are invited.

       This week the child will be working on the following skills.

  • Identifying and generating rhyme
  • Identifying, decoding, and reading words in text with ir, ur, er
  • The children will have a unit of study about Dr. Seuss 
  • Write a narrative about "Living with Dr. Seuss"
  • Continue to work on addition and subtraction facts
  • Continue to learn about famous African Americans
  • Identify and interpret data on a graph
  • Continue to work on addition/subtraction word problems

Week of February 19, 2018

         This will be a very busy week since we will only have 4 days.  The children will be out of school on Monday, February 19th for President's day.  Our class is  busy getting ready for our African American presentation.  It will be held on March 2nd at 8:30 a.m.. More information will be sent home this week about the African American presentation. 
          Below are the skills that we will be working on in class:

  • Identifying, decoding, and reading words with /ar/.
  • Categorization Phoneme
  • Decoding and reading words in content with multi-syllables
  • Identifying the plot within a story
  • Identify, read, write, and use irregular plurals
  • Identify the correct way to use commas in a sentence.
  • Read several stories  for fluency and understanding.  "A Barn Full of Hat" and "A Lost Button"
  • Bible story "Moses"  
  • Problem Solving using three dimensional geometry
  • Number sense
  • Continue to work on addition/subtraction of two digit numbers
  • Addition/Subtraction word problem
  • The life of George Washington
  • Continue to learn about famous African Americans

         The children are looking forward to their Valentine's Day party.  The party will be Wednesday, February 14th at 12:30 P.M.  Your child should make a Valentine card for each of their classmates.  It would be great, if you would allow your child to bring a treat to go in each of their classmates Valentine's bag.  Parents are welcome to come and assist with serving the children on Wednesday.

       The children will work on the following skills this week:

  • Identify, decode, and read words with long e spelled y, and ey
  • Reviewing compound words
  • Categorization
  • Identifying and reading high frequency and reading selection vocabulary:  found, hard, near, woman, would, write, clever, signal
  • The children will continue to work on reading for fluency and comprehension
  • Retell and rewrite a story in sequence
  • Write a letter using the 5 parts of a letter  (Writing letters to the Pen-Pals)
  • Continue to learn about famous African Americans
  • Continue to learn about weather
  • Comparing numbers <,>, and =
  • Review addition and subtraction facts
  • Interpret data on a graph
  •  Work on addition/subtraction of two digit numbers

Week of February 5, 2018

        The child really enjoyed celebrating the 100 Days of School.  There was a lot of learning that took place while they had a great time. This week we will continue working of the following skills.

  • Identifying, decoding, and reading words with long i, /y/,/igh/, and /ie/.
  • Begin a study of learning about famous African Americans.
  • Write narratives about famous African American, weather, and the 2018 Winter Olympics.
  • The children will learn about famous United State symbols.
  • The children will continue to work on reading for fluency and understanding.  They will be reading the following stories: "Creep Low, Fly High", "Meet the Insect", and Hi, Fly, Guy"
  • Review cause and effects within a story.
  • The children will be introduced to the following sight words:  caught, flew, know, laugh, listen were, beautiful, and fancy.
  • The children will add and subtract two digit numbers and work word problems
  • The children will continue to work on adding numbers with sums of 20 or less
  • Read and interpret data on a graph
  • Continue to work on place value
  • The children will begin assessment of sight words, reading for fluency and comprehension, and math skills.
  • Weekly Bible story will be about Baby Moses.

WEEKLY REMINDERS:
  • The children will go on a field trip to see a play about Charlie Brown on Tuesday, February 6th.  Your child will need to bring a lunch to school.  PLEASE PUT YOUR CHILD'S LUNCH IN A BAG WITH THEIR NAME ON IT.  We will have drinks for all children.
  • Donuts with Dad-February 15th
  • Muffins with Moms-February 16th
  • Please review your child's work that they bring home daily and sign your child's folder.
