Week of October 31, 2016

         This will be another very busy week as their will be lots of new skills introduced during the week.


  • The children will be introduced to the long /a/ silent e sound.
  • The children will sort long and short vowel sounds.
  • The children will work with verbs.
  • Weekly high frequency words: away, now, some, today, way why
  • Student will be introduced to compound words
  • Students will continue to work on measurement
  • Students will continue to work on addition and subtraction facts
  • Students will be introduce to shapes
  • Students will continue to learn about the duties of the President of the United States
  • Students will begin a science unit of study on balls and ramps
  • The children will write about things they are thankful for
  • The children will begin learning about the first Thanksgiving

Reminder:
  • The children should continue t collect boxtops
  • The children will be going to the Children Theater on November 11th.
  • The children will have a Thanksgiving feast on Friday, November 18th at 10:45. (More information will be sent home)
  • Remind your child to read their AR book daily.

Week of October 24, 2016

       This will be another busy week as we prepare for our Fall Harvest fun day on Friday.  The children will be doing fun activities throughout the day.  The children will have some special treats at 1:45.  Parents are invited to come help and join in on the fun.

       This week the children will learn and review the following skills:
  • The children will continue to work on learning sight words, reading for fluency, and comprehension skills.
  • The children will review the short vowel sounds
  • The children will learn how to identify words with one, two, and three syllables.
  • The children will learn their double number facts
  • The children will learn to add 3 or more addends with sums less than twenty.
  • The children will learn to measure my using an inch ruler and tape measure
  • The children will continue to work addition and subtraction word problems.
  • The children will read the story "Where the Wild Things Are" and do several activities associated with the story.
  • The children will learn about the duties of a president
  • The children  will write a narrative about if they were President of the United State 
  • The students will learn about Jacob having a Dream (Genesis 27:41-45; 28:10-22)

Don't forget Book Character Pumpkins for the Pumpkin Patch in the Eagle's Nest can be brought in beginning Monday, October 24th. Judging will be on the 28th.

 This will be another busy and fun week as we prepare for our field trip on Friday to the fire station.  We will be working on the following skills this week:
Week of October 10, 2016

  • Reading for fluency and comprehension
  • The children will continue to learn new vocabulary and review sight words.
  • The children will learn greater than, less than, and equal to. <,>,=
  • The children will continue to work addition and subtraction word problems
  • The children will continue to work with learning addition and subtraction facts
  • They will learn to decode words with /sh/, /th/, and /ng/
  • The children will be introduced to closed syllables
  • The children will write several narratives about fire safety and firefighters
  • The children will learn about fire safety.
  • The children will read and discuss the weekly Bible story " Genesis 26:12-33

REMINDERS:
  • All children should be reading AR books daily at home. Please remind your child to return their book daily.  
  • The children will go to the fire station on Friday, October 14th.  We will leave the school at 8:15.  Parents are welcome to attend.
  • Children should continue to study sight words and math facts at home as much as possible.
