Week of December 4th

           This week we will be preparing for our visit to Whitsitt Elementary.  The children will take a gift and refreshment to the students at Whitsitt.  Parents are invited to attend.  If you are planning on going please let me know.
    The children will work on the following skills:

  • Identify, decode, and read words with /u/oo sound
  • Review inflectional endings -ing and -ed
  • Compare and contrast stories
  • Work on improving handwriting by writing using good letter formation and spacing.
  • Read and identify details and the main idea in the story
  • Work on coding skills (STEM)
  • Write a narrative about the first Christmas
  • Sequence a story by writing what happened first, next, then, and finally.
  • Review ABC order
  • Interpret data on a graph
  • Review addition/subtraction facts
  • Review previous learned Bible stories    
  • Continue to learn about Christmas Around the World and other holidays celebrated at this time of year.

CLASSROOM REMINDERS:
  • All library books need to be turned in by Monday, December 4th.

  • Field trip to the library and Chuck - E- Cheese    (Surprise Field Trip)  December 11th
  • Christmas Breakfast ( December 13th) in our classroom beginning at 9:00.  Parents are welcome to come and help.  A menu will be sent home this week.  
  • Christmas Carols/Christmas Reading in Eagle Nest Thursday, December 14th (9:00)
  • Pajama Day/Movie Day  December 15th   (9:00)

Week of November 27, 2017

        This will be a very busy week as we prepare for the holidays.  The children will work on the following skills.

  • Read, discuss, and do activities with this weeks Bible story "Joseph and the Coat of Many Colors".
  • Compare and contrast using a Venn Diagram about Christmas now and Christmas in the past
  • Identify, decode, and read words with the long /u/ and long /o/ silent e
  • Continue to work on reading with good comprehension and fluency
  • Continue to work on decoding multi-syllable words
  • Continue to work on addition/subtraction facts
  • Add numbers with 3 or more addends
  • Work addition/subtraction word problems
  • The children will be introduced to measurement of inches and centimenters
  • Learn about holidays that are celebrated during this time of year
  • Identify, read, and use adjectives in their writing.
  • Write narratives about the past and present using a Venn Diagram.
  • Read different versions of the Little Gingerbread man and compare and contrast 
  • I will begin reading assessment on sight words, reading for fluency and comprehension.

  • Field trip to see our pen pals on December 7th.  Parents are invited to attend.  We will be going to Whitsitt Elementary.  The bus will leave the school the school around 8:15.  The children will have lunch at school when they return.  If your child has not brought their $3.00 to purchase a gift for their pen pal.
  • December 11th field trip to the Public Library at Hickory Hollow and lunch at Chuck-E- Cheese  (This is a surprise for the children.  Therefore, help me keep it a secret)
  • December 14th-Christmas Breakfast  
  • Half Days for children December 12th-15th
I will begin assessment of reading and math skills this week.  If you would like to schedule a conference please let me know.  I am free to have a conference with you any day before or after school or during my planning at 9:00 each day.

       This will be an extremely busy week.  We will be working on getting ready for our Thanksgiving feast that will be held on Friday.  Parents are welcome to come.  Please let me know if you are planning on attending.  A menu will be sent out to let you know what you can send for our Thanksgiving feast.
        Below are the skills that will be taught this week:

  • Identify, read, and decode words with the soft c and the soft g.
  • Identify and generate rhyme
  • Phonemic Segmentation
  • Writing narratives about weekly Bible story and the First Thanksgiving
  • Reviewing addition and subtraction
  • Adding numbers with three addends
  • Addition/Subtraction word problems
  • Identifying the main idea and details within a story.
  • Reviewing -ed and -ing endings
  • Comparing and contrasting things within a story
  • Continue to read and discuss the story "Mr. Popper's Penguins"
  • Students will be introduce to adjectives and how to use them in a sentence.

Week of November 6, 2017

 

       This will be another short week.  The children will be doing a lot to get ready for their Thanksgiving feast and their visit to the Nashville Children's Theater.
        Below are the skills that we will be working on this week:
  • Identifying, decoding, and reading words with long /i/ silent e words
  • Sequencing stories:  Identifying and writing what happened first, next, then, and finally in a story.
  • Review plurals
  • Read the stories "Squanto and the Indians" and "The Big Yuca Plant". The children will retell and rewrite the stories in sequence.
  • Word Problems (addition and subtractions)
  • Geometry shapes
  • Mixed addition and subtraction facts
  • The children will continue to learn about the Indians and the Pilgrims
  • Write letters to our pen-pals at Whitsitt Elementary.

  The children will take part in the first grade service project.  They will be writing letters to their pen pal beginning this week.  The children will be able to visit their pen-pal's at Whitsitt Elementary on December 7th at 9:00.  I am asking all of the children to donate $3.00.  This will allow the children to purchase books, crayons, and other items for their pen-pal.  Your child may bring this to school next week.  Parents are invited to go with the children to Whitsitt Elementary.  More information will be sent home later.

WEEKLY REMINDERS:

  • No School/ Monday, November 6th
  • Yankee Candle fundraiser:  The deadline for qualifying for prizes including the chance to win a FREE 2018-19 TECH FEE(valued up to $375) is Nov 14. 2 will be awarded in each school for qualifiers and seniors are eligible for a meal coupon to Angelos. 
  • Field Trip - Nashville Children's Theater - November 16th
  • Service Project: Taking books and goodies to students at Whitsitt Elementary.
  • Thanksgiving Feast in the Eagle's Nest - November 17th
