        This past week was a great week.  The children did an awesome job in their play.  Thanks to all the parents that helped make this play a success.
        This week the children will enjoy several special activities.  Your child will be working on the following skills:
  • Identifying, decoding, and reading words with /u/oo, u
  • Reviewing inflectional Ending -ed and -ing
  • Reviewing high frequency words: after, buy, done, every, soon, and work
  • Read, retell, and rewrite stories in sequence.
  • Learning how people celebrate Christmas around the world
  • Learning about rolling things and ramps
  • Reviewing addition and subtraction facts
  • Solving addition and subtraction word problem
  • Identifying groups of tens (counting by 10's)
  • Identifying tens and ones
  • Reading and discuss the weekly Bible story "Joseph Helps Pharaoh"
  • Identifying and reading words with 1,2,3, and 4 syllables

Classroom Reminder:
  • All children should read at least 2 AR books a week.  Your child should read their AR book at home and should be prepared to take a test the next day.

Week of November 26, 2018

          I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.  I would like to thank all of the parents that made our Thanksgiving feast a great success.  The food was fantastic and the children loved having you there.
       This week will be extremely busy as we prepare for the 1st/2nd grade program.  The program will be on Thursday, November 29th.  We will have dress rehearsal on Wednesday, November 28th at 10:15 in the high school gym. Your child will need to bring their shirt for the performance to school for the dress rehearsal. Please put your child's name in their shirt.  Your child will need to be in our classroom by 6:00 dressed for the performance on Thursday.

Here is what is needed for their costumes: A PLAIN yellow t-shirt (no writing, design or print-please see attachment, you can find these at places like Hobby Lobby) with either black or orange pants (Girls can choose to wear leggings or tights) We are asking you to send $5 for the costume head piece (Mark envelope for musical). Dark shoes or tennis shoes.  They need their costume for "dress rehearsal/pictures" on November 27th., Tuesday. Please send costume to school that day.  

       Other than practicing for the performance the children will be working on the following skills:

  • Reading the story "The Little Gingerbread Boy" and "The Gingerbread Baby" comparing and contrasting the stories.
  • Identifying, decoding and reading words with the soft /c/ and soft /g/
  • Identifying and generate rhyme in the poem The Gingerbread Boy" 
  • Reading and discussing the weekly memory verse:  You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.  Deuteronomy 6:5
  • Read, retell, and rewrite the weekly Bible story. "Joseph has a Dream" 
  • Count and write numbers by 2's, 5's, and 10's
  • Reviewing addition and subtraction facts
  • Solving addition/subtraction word problems
  • Read and discuss how others celebrate the holidays around the world
  • Reviewing inflectional endings -ed and -ing
  • Decode words with 1,2,and 3 syllables.
  • Read stories and identifying the setting, characters, and main idea within the story.
  • Weekly Spelling words:  rice, nice, page, age, wedge, ledge, mice, ice, face, slice,

Week of November 12, 2018

          This week the children will have a busy week as they prepare for their Thanksgiving Day feast, going to see the Little Mermaid at the Nashville Theater, and practicing for the  1st/2nd grade play.
The children will be working on the following skills:
  • Identifying, decoding, and reading words with long /o/ and long /u/ with the silent e.
  • Identifying and reading words with 1,2, and 3 syllables
  • Reading stories about long ago and now
  • Retell and rewriting stories about Thanksgiving
  • Preparing for their Thanksgiving feast
  • Review addition/subtraction facts
  • Solving addition/subtraction word problems
  • Identifying and recognizing shapes
  • Using a Venn diagram to compare and contrast schools of long ago and Thanksgiving today and Thanksgiving long ago
  • Listening to the story of "The Little Mermaid" and identifying the main idea and details within the story.
  • Reading and discuss weekly Bible story ""Jacob Goes Home"
  • Discuss and recite the weekly memory verse:  Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever! Psalm 107

FIELD TRIP TO THE CHILDREN'S THEATER:
The children will travel to the Nashville children's theater on November 14th
Parents cannot go to the theater
The children will have lunch when they return.
Your child should wear their uniform to the theater
Please dress your child warmly for the field trip.

THANKSGIVING DAY FEAST:
The children will enjoy a Thanksgiving feast on Friday in the Eagle's Nest.  Parents invited to attend.  If you signed up to bring something for the feast please try to have it at school by 10:30.  The children will have their feast at 11:05.  This is their regular lunch time.

Week of November 5, 2018

        This week the children will begin learning about the first Thanksgiving.  They will begin preparing for their Thanksgiving dinner. The first/second grand Thanksgiving feast will be on November 16th at 11:00.  Parents are invited to attend.  Mrs. Wilburn or Mrs. McClard,  our room mothers will be contacting you about what you will need to send for the dinner.  
        This week the children will be working and reviewing on the following skills:
  • Identifying, decoding, and reading words with long /i/ silent e
  • Identify the characters and setting within a story
  • We will continue to work on learning sight words and addition/subtraction number facts
  • Retell and rewrite a story in sequence
  • Review addition doubles
  • Add numbers with 3 or more addends
  • Identify and make patterns of AB, ABC, and AABB
  • Continue to learn about voting.  (Children will have a Mock election on Tuesday) They will vote for a senator for Tennessee and for the Governor of Tennessee)
  • Children will be introduce to the pollination process.
  • Students will read, discuss and write about the First Thanksgiving.
  • Identifying the weekly high frequency words:  green, grow, pretty, should, together, water
  • Study will read and discuss weekly Bible story "Jacob has a Dream"
  • Weekly memory verse: God said, "I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go".Genesis 28:15
