             This will be a fun week as the children learn about fire safety.  This week the children will be introduce to new skills.  It is important that your child continue to review sight words and math facts at home as much as possible.
Below are some skills that will be introduced and reviewed this week.

  •   Read, decode, and identify words in text with ending blend /nd/, /st/, /nk/ and /mp/                  Phonemic awareness drills
  • Review sight words and new vocabulary words.
  • phoneme categorization

  • Identifying, decoding, and reading words with ending sounds, /nd/, /st/, /nk/, and /mp/
  • Read and rewrite stories in sequence
  • Identify the main idea and details within the story.
  • Subtract number facts with differences ten or less
  • Work addition and subtraction word problems.
  • Identify telling and asking questions
  • Put words in ABC order
  • Identify and read contractions
  • Read and identify words with inflectional ending -ing and -ed
  • Learn about fire safety
  • Begin reviewing the books of the Bible
  • Read and learn about the Bible story "Isaac is Born" Genesis 15:1-6; 17:1-8;18:1-15:21:1-7

         The children truly enjoyed learning about Johnny Appleseed.  They loved tasting all the foods that are made of apples.  Thanks to all the parents that sent items in or came to assist serving the children.
        This week the children will learn about the changes that happen in the fall.  They will  be working on the following skills before fall break.

  • Identifying, decoding, and reading words in text with short /u/
  • Reviewing and sorting all short vowels
  • Identifying and reading contraction words
  • Identifying and generate rhymes
  • Continue to work on reading for comprehension and fluency
  • Continue to work on vocabulary and sight words
  • Introduce to subtraction
  • Continue to work on word problems and interpreting data on a graph
  • Read and discuss Abram travels to a new home. (Genesis 12:1-9)
  • Discuss and identify the changes of fall
  • Writing a narrative about autumn

Week of September 18, 2017

  I am looking forward to meeting with all my parents this week for Parent-Teacher's Conference.  If you have not scheduled an appointment please do it as soon as possible.  
   This will be a fun week as the children learn about Johnny Appleseed.  We will have a apple tasting party on Friday.  It would be helpful if all children would donate something made of apple for the children to taste.  Some examples are listed below.
(apple butter, apple cookies, apple chips, apple bread, apple juice, apple pie, apple candy, apple jelly, applesauce, apple cider, apple fritters, etc)  Feel free to send in something else that my not be on the list.
  Below are some of the skills the children will be learning this week.  
  • Identifying, decoding, and read words with short /e/,
  • Identifying and read words with the inflectional -ed
  • Retelling and rewrite stories in sequence.
  • Write using good letter formation and spacing.
  • Practice phonemic Awareness isolation
  • Have a better understanding of adding doubles 
  • Interpret data on a graph
  • Work addition word problems
  • Continue to work on sight words and vocabulary words
  • Read about Johnny Appleseed and do other activities about Johnny Appleseed
  •  Identify the main idea and details within the story.

Week of September 11, 2017

      The children and I would like to thank all that came to Grandparent's Day.  The children enjoyed having their grandparents spend time with them at school.  I want to let you know that grandparents are always welcome in our class.
         This week will be another very busy week as we review previous skills and introduce new skills.  Below are the skills that we will be learning this week.

  • Identify, decode, and read words with the /Rr/and /Ss/  blends
  • Phonemic Awareness Phonemic categorization
  • Read words and identify words that are possessive
  • Continue to learn new vocabulary and review sight word
  • Continue to add using different strategies. ( using touch point, adding on, and using the number line.
  • Interpret data on a class graph 
  • Work addition word problem and show how they got the answer
  • Work in small groups to create a chain. (Stem Lab)
  • Continue to read and identify the 7 continents and 4 oceans
  • Continue to write using good letter formations and spacing.
  • Continue to work on reading for comprehension and fluency.

   This will be a busy and short week.  We only have two instructional days.  Therefore, we will not have any spelling words or Bible story this week.  We will not have weekly test on Friday.  Below are some of the skills that we will be doing this week:
  • Review identifying the main details, setting, and characters within a story.
  • Write narratives about grandparents
  • Decode and identify words with short vowels.
  • Add using a number line
  • Add by counting on
  • Continue to work on for fluency and understanding
  • Continue to work on learning sight words
  • Retell and sequence stories
  • Continue a unit of study on map skills
CLASSROOM REMINDERS:
  • There will not be school on Monday and Tuesday
  • There will not be a spelling words or Bible story this week
  • Grandparent's Day will be Friday 8th
