Week of February 25, 2019

      Wow!  I can't believe March is almost here.  We have a lot to do as we prepare for our yearly achievement test and for the Multi-Culture Program.  It is very important that you continue to allow your child to read daily at home.  Your child should continue to review sight words and addition/subtraction math facts if they do not know them.  If you did not have a conference with me and would like to please contact me and schedule a conference. 

This week we will work on the following skills:

  • Identifying, decoding, and reading words with /ir/,/er/, and /ur/
  • Identify and read high frequency words: another, climb, full, great, poor, through, leaped, and stretch
  • Read word and write words with the inflectional ending -er
  • Work on listening skills and answer comprehension questions.
  • Read and identify the main idea and details within a story.
  • Write narrative about a famous African American
  • Write their autobiography
  • Solve addition/subtraction word problems
  • Review addition/subtraction facts
  • Identify fractions 1/2, 1/3, and 1/4
  • Begin a unit of study on stars and constellations.
  • Identify and read about famous African Americans and their accomplishments
  • Read and discuss weekly Bible story "God Makes a Path Through the Red Sea
  • Recite and discuss the weekly memory verse:  "Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Psalm 150:6

Week of February 18, 2018

        This week the children will be busy working on some new skills.  It is very important that you continue to review addition/subtraction math facts with your child at home.  
       This week the children will work on the following skills.
  • Listening comprehension Kills
  • Phonemic Awareness
  • Identifying, decoding and reading words with /or/ and /ore/
  • Identify abbreviation and use abbreviation in their writing
  • Read and discuss famous inventors and use a class graphic organizer
  • Continue to read and learn about famous African American
  • Solve addition/subtraction word problems
  • Identify and sort even and odd numbers
  • Review addition/subtraction number facts
  • Retell and rewrite stories
  • Read  and discuss weekly Bible story: Moses Lead the People out of Egypt"
  • Memorize the weekly Bible verse:   Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. Ephesians 4:32

       This week we will  celebrate Valentine's Day.  The children will have a small party on Thursday from 1:45-2:30.  Each child should make Valentine cards for each of their classmates.  They should also bring something special to go in their classmates Valentine bag.  Some examples are ( pencils, bag of candy, erasers, plastic toys, etc). Your child will not have to bring a bag or Valentine box.  I have gotten these for the children.   • Read and discuss weekly Bible story "Moses Says, "Let my People Go."

Classroom Reminder:
  • Please send in $2.00 for pizza on Thursday for our party.
  • Pastries with Parents, February 14th 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.
  • Return the multicultural survey that was sent home on Friday.  This should be returned by Tuesday.
  • If you would like a conference please contact me as soon as possible. Conference day is February 21st from 3:00-6:00.  However, I can meet for conference any morning at 7:00 or on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday after school.   I am also free to meet with you for a conference during my planning any day from 9:30-10:05.

    Week of February 4, 2019

             This is going to be a very busy month.  There will be many topics covered in social studies and science, reading and math.  It is very important that your child continue to review their sight words, math facts, and read for enjoyment at home as much as possible.
           
    Below are the skills that your child will be working on this week:

    • Identify, decode, and read words with long /i/, /ie/, /igh/, and /y/
    • Phonemic Awareness Categorization of long i words
    • Review inflection endings -ing and -ed
    • Identify cause and effect within a story.
    • Identify main idea and details within a story.
    • Practicing listening skills by identify details within a story
    • Continue to work on reading for fluency and comprehension
    • Retell and rewrite a story.
    • Read and discuss weekly Bible story "God Talks to Moses" Exodus 3:1-4:17
    • Weekly memory verse:  1 Corinthians 10:31 - Whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God.
    • Continue to work on addition/subtraction 
    • Solve addition/subtraction word problem
    • Identify even and odd numbers
    • Learn how to use a thermometer 
    • Identify famous African American
    • Learn about the flag of the United States and what it states for.
