I hope each of you had a great spring break. I would like to thank each of you for the surprise luncheon and the beautiful flowers for my birthday. I was able to enjoy them throughout the break. They still look beautiful.
This will be a busy week as we review for the upcoming achievement test and learn new reading and math skills. Remind your child to listen careful and follow all classroom skills as we go through the next couple of weeks.
In math the children will begin counting coins, pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters. It is strongly suggested that you allow your child to count coins at home for reinforcement.
The children will be working on the following skills:
- Reading for fluency and understanding.
- Identifying, decoding, and reading words within text with /au/ and /aw/.
- Phonemic Awareness Phonemic Categorization
- This week high frequency words are as follow: brother, father, friend, love, mother, picture, accept, often.
- Reading and using possessive pronouns in their writing.
- Listening skills
- Counting coins (pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters)
- Reviewing addition/subtraction facts
- Work on test taking strategies
- Work on the three R's (recycle, reuse, and renew)
- Retelling and rewriting a story in sequence.
