Week of October 22, 2018
This week the children will be quit busy. The children will be introduced to several new skills in reading and math. It is very important that your child continue to study their sight words and begin studying their addition facts. I will be doing assessment in reading this week.
The children will work on the following skills:
- Identifying, decoding, and reading words with /th/, /sh/, and /ng/
- Identifying and reading words with closed syllables
- Identify words with 1,2, and 3 syllables
- Read stories and tell and write the sequence of the story.
- Continue to work on reading with fluency and understanding
- Put words in ABC order
- Read, discuss, and rewrite the weekly Bible story "Isaac Chooses not to Fight" Genesis 26-12:33
- Read and discuss weekly memory verse:
"If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone." Romans 12:
- Review addition and subtraction
- Use a inch ruler to measure
- Use estimation to estimate length
- Identify and write number facts
- Identify the Earth, direction words, northern and southern hemisphere
- Identify the candidate in the the upcoming governor and senator election
- Identify a pumpkin from seed to pumpkin

CLASSROOM REMINDERS
- First/Second Grade Musical:
Here is what is needed for their costumes: A PLAIN yellow t-shirt (no writing, design or print-please see attachment, you can find these at places like Hobby Lobby) with either black or orange pants (Girls can choose to wear leggings or tights) We are asking you to send $5 for the costume head piece (Mark envelope for musical). Dark shoes or tennis shoes. They need their costume for "dress rehearsal/pictures" on November 27th., Tuesday. Please send costume to school that day.
- AR Reading: All children should read at least 2 AR books each week. Please remind your child to return their book to school each day. Your child should return their book to school each day even if they are taking a test. We D.E.A.R. (drop every, thing and read) and your child can practice reading their book.
- It is important that your child arrive to school on time each day
- Children should dress for the weather. The children will go to P.E. and recess daily outside.
- Fall Party: Please sign up on what your child will bring to the party.
