The children have enjoyed the first two days back to school. They all appear to be adjusting well in first grade. I look forward to working with your child as well as you this year. Please remember to keep in contact with me. You may contact me through e-mail or text.
I will begin assessing the children on Monday. I will assess the children on sight words, reading for fluency and understanding, and decoding skills.
Your child will bring home their binder this week. Please review all work your child brings home and allow your child to make corrections. It is very important that you sign your child's binder daily. All binders will have sight words in them. It is strongly suggested that your child start learning these sight words at home. We will be working on learning these words at school as well. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD RETURNS THEIR SIGHT WORDS TO SCHOOL IN THEIR BINDER EACH DAY.
This week the children will be reviewing and working on the following skills:
- The Bible: They will learn what the Bible is made up of. They will learn how many books are in the New Testament and Old Testament.
- The children will begin learning about the Creations.
- Identifying the difference between vowels and consonants
- Decode and read words with short /a/
