Week of  January 28, 2019


          I would like to thank Representative Jason Potts for inviting our class to the State Capitol on Friday.  It was a great field trip and the children truly enjoyed it.  Please have your child tell you about their experience at the Capitol.

         On Tuesday the children will celebrate 100 Days of school.  Your child should bring whatever item was written on the letter that they brought home on Friday.  We will do activities to celebrate 100 Days of School throughout the day.  Your child will need to wear their standard school uniform.

Week of January 21, 2019

         This will be a busy, busy, week as we prepare for our field trip to the Tennessee State capitol on Friday, January 25th.  We will leave the school around 8:30 and hopefully arrive at the capitol at 9:00.  If you are planning on going to the capitol with the class you may follow the bus or meet us at the capitol.  Please let me know if you are planning on going on the field trip by Wednesday.  The children will not need to bring a lunch on Friday.  Lunch will be provided by Mr. Potts.  If your child is on a special diet you may send a lunch with your child.  All children will need to wear khaki pants and the Tennessee shirt that will be sent home this week. Mr. Potts and I are providing the shirts for your child to wear.

This week the children will work on the following skills:
The tentative date for the first grade 100 Day of School celebration will be Tuesday, January 29th.
  • Identifying, decoding, and reading words with  the long /e/ sound spelled ee, ea.
  • Comparing/and contrasting things within a story.
  • Reading words with prefixes( re, un, pre)
  • Read high frequency words in text: because, blue, into, or, other, small, danger, partner
  • Identify and generate rhyme within a story or poem
  • Identify and name different kinds of clouds.
  • Identify solids, liquids, and gases
  • Review addition of two digit 
  • Subtract two digit numbers
  • Solve an subtraction problem (two digit numbers) and show illustration
  • Begin our working on 100 Day of school celebration.

The first grade 100 Days of School Celebration will be on Tuesday, January 29th. This is a tentative date.  If we are out for snow it will be moved up a day.  The children will do reading and doing math activities throughout the day relating to 100 Days of school.  Your child will need to bring a zip lock bag with 100 items in it.(buttons, pennies, clips, crayons, pencils, etc)   They will use these items to work with during the day.  Your child will bring a note home this week letting you know what they will need to bring for the 100 Days of School Celebration.  We will be having a 100 Day of School Snack.

Classroom Reminder:
  • Reading and Bible test will be on Thursday due to the field trip
  • Continue to remind your child to bring their AR book to school daily.

       I would like to thank all of you for the cards, calls, text, and other acts of kindness during the passing of my sister.  I am looking forward to coming back to school on Monday.  I have really missed the kids.
       This week we will work on the following skills:

  • Weekly high frequency words: about, animal, carry, eight, give, our
  • Review alphabetical order
  • Review compound words
  • Write narrative using good spelling, sentence structure, letter formation, and spacing
  • Read and discuss weekly Bible story "Joseph Helps Pharaoh" Genesis 39-1-41:49
  • Read and discuss weekly memory Bible verse: Isaiah 43:5
     Do not be afraid for I am with you.
  • Read, discuss, do art projects about our state of Tennessee
  • Learn about the rain cycle
  • Solve addition word problem
  • Add two digit numbers without regrouping
  • Read and discuss stories using good fluency and understanding
  • Retell and rewrite stories
  • Continue to work on number sense 
  • Read and discuss the life of Martin Luther King Jr.
AR
All children will need to read at least 3 AR or 1 chapter book on their reading level. A grade will be giving for reading AR books at mid quarter and at the end of the quarter.
