Week of May 2, 2016
This week the children will work on the following skills.
- The children will decode, identify, and read words with / kn/, /gn/, and /wr/.
- The children will read the story "Jack and the Beanstalk".
- The children will continue to retell and rewrite stories in sequence, identify the main idea of a story, and identify details within a story.
- The children will compare and contrast different version of the story "Jack and the Beanstalk" by using a Venn Diagram"
- The children will identify and the author's purpose for writing a story.
- The children will discuss and write about their mothers.
- The children will continue to review word problems, addition and subtract facts, using tally marks, and interpreting data on a graph.
- The child will identity the parts and functions of a natural system--the pollination system.
- The children will take their year-end reading assessment on sight words and reading for fluency and comprehension,
- The children will write a narrative about their mother.

First Grade Picnic
The children will enjoy a fun day at the park on Friday. Parents are invited to come and enjoy fun and help with the children.
- The children should wear their blue field day shirt.
- All children should wear tennis shoes. Please no sandals or flip flops.
- Children may bring balls and other outside games. Please no hard balls.
- All children should bring a snack lunch including a drink.
- Please put sun screen on your child. If your child would like to bring sun screen to be reapplied please put your child's name on it.
